The Greatest Rivalry in Sports

I can’t believe people still try to argue this.  North Carolina and Duke, in my eyes at least, is by far the greatest rivalry in sports.  Ohio State and Michigan football?  Meh, a lot of people who don’t have a rooting interest in either of those teams don’t watch.  Yankees vs. Red Sox?  Please, the Red Sox didn’t win anything in that rivalry until a few years ago.  Just when you think you have seen everything these two teams have to offer, Tyler Hansbrough ruins JJ Redick’s Senior Night.  So for those of you who aren’t fans of either team, I suggest you sit back, relax and watch two of the most stories programs in college basketball put on another great show!

We’ve talked before about ESPN and their many faults, but one of their few strengths is their ability to put together a heck of a sports montage before a game.  I’ve added one of my favorites below.  Enjoy!

Army vs. Navy is a game that brings a lot of national focus on the future of our country, going beyond the playing field. That is why it’s the best rivalry in the land.

    Go Navy! Beat Army!

I’ll agree that the Army/Navy game creates an equal amount of buzz and attention, but as you said it’s mostly because of reasons beyond the game. In my mind, that makes it a very different kind of rivalry. The fact that neither of those teams is frequently among the elite is damaging to its on the field case.
